The musical talent of Ukrainian pianist Andrii Lunov was apparent very early. He started playing piano at his fives and enrolled in the class of Prof. Natalia Gridneva at Kiev Lysenko Special Music School when he was eight. Even then, Prof. Gridneva recognized his musicality, unconventional thinking, and mature and deep understanding of the music he played.
Andrii received the First Prizes at the competition in Kosice (Slovakia) and the Czerny Competition in Prague when he was twelve and thirteen respectively. During the subsequent years, he obtained prizes at “Delphic Games” in Kiev, The Chopin Piano Competition in Moscow, and The Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar. It was the start of his concert career. Andrii Lunov has made appearances in Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, and Spain. There are multiple recordings of his performances made by the Czech and Polish radio and television. Together with famous Ukrainian conductor V.Blinov, he recorded Grieg Concerto in A minor and Chopin Concerto No.1 in E minor specifically for the Ukrainian National Radio. Afterwards these recordings became a part of the national musical archive. Andrii Lunov recorded three CDs with works of Chopin, Liszt, Franck, Grieg, Szymanowski, and Prokofiev.
Andrii has continued to master his skills with such world-renowned pianists as M.Voskresensky, B.Petrushansky, A.Orlovetsky, D.Alekseev, K.Kammerling, F.Gottlieb, N.Fisher.
Among the latest awards of Andrii is First Prize at the London International music competition in 2015.
Currently, Andrii gives frequent performances in Ukraine and abroad. His concert activity is particularly intensive in his homeland, where he plays solo as well as together with orchestras in Kiev and many regional Philharmonic halls across the country. During the last several years, he has given more than thirty recitals in Poland. He also formed special creative liaisons with the Liszt Society in Wroclaw.
The repertoire of Andrii Lunov includes works from the Baroque era to the contemporary period. He creates the emphasis on masterpieces of romantic composers: Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninov.
Performance style of Andrii Lunov combines the harmony of musical form with a deep and thorough interpretation. He brings out the very essence of the music, as opposed to solely paying attention to the grandeur and virtuosity of the pieces.
Since 2009 Andrii has been teaching at the Mykola Lysenko Special Music School of Kyiv. There are many laureates of International competitions among his pupils.
He gives masterclasses in cities of Ukraine and Latvia.
