Musical Education:

Joan Camps starts his musical career at the age of 9 with Mss.Filomena Comellas. He has private piano and solfeig lessons with the goal to get a place in the Escolania of Montserrat; a boarding school with music inclusive. He is successful and he begins his studies (part of the Primary and Secondary School) in Escolania from Montserrat with the teacher Manel Barea (French Horn) and Brother Odiló and Carles Viarnés (Piano).

He studies Primary and Secondary music education and the Professional Grade of Music at the Escolania, Professional Conservatory of Music of Badalona (Manel Barea) and Professional Conservatori of Music Manresa (Enric Martínez). All these years he studies parallel piano (Benjamí Santacana).

In 2003 he gets accepted in ESMUC where he studies a Bachelor in French Horn with David B. Thompson. As a second major he studies Natural Horn with Javier Bonet. He graduates in 2009. 


Competitions, Master Classes, and Courses:

  • First Prize Horn of the Mestre Blanch Competition in the Professional Conservatory of Music (Manresa).

  • Finalist of the 1rst National Competition for Young French Horn players Villa Alba de Tormes.

  • Masterclasses from Arturo Nogués, Daniel Bourgue, Manolo Pérez, Jeffrey Cooper and William Vermeulen.

  • Courses with the Oemuc (with Javier Forner), Oemuc (with Mireia Farrés), Oemuc (with José Miguel Asensi), Jonc (with the wind quintet Miró Ensemble), Jonc (with Javier Bonet), Jonc (with Arturo Nogués), Jonc (with Manolo Pérez) and course with the Brass Academy of the Symphonic Orchestra from Vallès (with Raül Garrido as a Horn teacher).


Professional Experience:


  • Horn, Trombone and Trumpet teacher in Diaula’s Music School Barcelona. Individual and group lessons during the first academic semester 2007-2008.

  • French horn, Trumpet and Trombone private teacher for preparation of the Middle Grade auditions.

  • Brass Substitute teacher in the first academic semester 2012-2013, in the Aula Municipal de Música “Maria Escolà i Cases” of Piera (individual lessons and Wheel of instruments).

  • Sporadic substitutions: in Escolania de Montserrat (individual lessons of French Horn, Trumpet and Trombone), in l’Escola Municipal de Música de Berga (individual French Horn and Tuba’s lessons), in l’Escola de Música i Conservatori de Vic (individual French Horn’s lessons) and in l’Escola Pausa d’Horta, Barcelona (individual Horn and Trumpet’s lessons).

  • For a few weeks, a teaching substitiution of 5 weeks in l’Escola i Conservatori Municipal de Música Mestre Montserrat de Vilanova i la Geltrú (Horn lessons).


Performing Experience:

Joan Camps is a contributor and had performed with Orchestras such as: Symphony Orchestra Julià Carbonell de les terres de Lleida, Symphony Orchestra of Sant Cugat, Chamber Orchestra from Granollers, Orchestra Jonc Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of Liceu, Orchestra of Liceu’s Academy, OBC, Orchestra Camera Musicae, Chamber Orchestra Terrassa 48, Chamber Orchestra of Vic, Chamber Orchestra of Girona, Catalan’s Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Catalonia, Symphony Orchestra  del Segle XXI and the Young Catalan Orchestras (JONC and OEMUC).
